Making

well-being a given

The decision to see a therapist can be a big step - but it can be a positive one.

How can therapy help you create lasting positive change ?

Through one - one sessions conducted with the upmost care I work to develop trust and create

comfortable environment for my clients to experience lasting positive change.

Practical and forward focused Human Givens is a therapy that focuses on skills and understandings people can use to move on in life, rather than concentrating on, or being stuck in, what went wrong in the past.

Even if people have suffered horrific traumatising events and suffer from flashbacks and/or PTSD

All Human Givens therapists are taught a safe reliable effective, evidence-based method for de-traumatising people. Instead of being reliant on one ‘model’ of therapy, the Human Givens approach is fluid and flexible, making use of whatever techniques and approaches will best suit each individual client.

MOTIVATING CHANGE

A New You Therapy brings together the latest research into metal health well-being to help you achieve your goals .

During therapy clients can find the freedom to express themselves emotionally, and learn ways to cope with life more effectively. Painful feelings such as grief, anger, shame, and fear can often be overwhelming and the thought of therapy can feel difficult. However we know that If issues are left unresolved they can lead to anxiety, stress lack of sleep and depression.

Menopause....

Life is for living, many woman tell me they are happier after the menopause, but not all of us? Studies show that some women can experience menopausal symptoms for up to 14 years Why suffer all that time when you can do something about it ? Or why wait until any symptoms get in the way of enjoying life? I have a holistic approuch to working with woman finding ways to reduce some of the issues. If you are feeling anxious or uncertain about life? Struggling to sleep to feel happy, confident, or desirable. If your avoiding social situations, perhaps even preferring to hide away? You may already be menopausal without realising that its your hormones putting you out of whack! It is possible to make your menopause a more positive, calmer experience? you can reduce stress levels, learn strategies to help reduce hot flushes, ways to improve sleep, methods to take control of your weight and find the new in you.

Anxiety Removal

Learn how to let go of anxiety, remove panic & calm your mind to create a lasting sense of peace in your everyday life. Anxiety can get the better of us, we can all feel anxious at times, it is a normal response to a stressful situation. However for some people the anxiety can become so severe that it interferes with day to day living. When anxiety gets out of control it can quickly become so disabling it prevents us enjoying life. Human Givens Therapy can help take away anxious feelings leaving you feeling lighter and in control. Transforming the way you think leaving you more able to cope with life. Left unresolved anxiety can lead to restless sleep, mood swings, exhaustion and depression.

When we change the way we think about something the things we think about change.

Make Healthier Choices

Explore ways to gain a greater insight into any difficulties you may be facing today. Working together to help understand why you might respond act or react to certain situations in the the way do. This enables you to see more clearly ways to start making your life better, to make healthier choices, to feel better about yourself. Like letting go of old perhaps addictive habits improve your quality of sleep, change your relationship with food.

Maintaining a healthier lifestyle can be one of the hardest things you can do. The stress and worries in life can easily knock us off course and before you know it bad habits have take over. Shifting the way you think can make all the difference in how you feel.

Managing Menopause

in a Changing World

The menopause may feel insignificant compared to the concerns regarding all the other stuff that is going on in the world.

Our minds perhaps focused on other issues – how to work from home or start to return to a new normal. The stress on your relationships keeping others safe, the economy the list may feel endless. The health of you and of those around you being a priority.

But your menopause symptoms will not have stopped, they may even be worse as changes in stress levels, and worries impact our physical, mental and emotional health.

Social restrictions not feeling in control may make any us feel irritated; add menopause issues to the mix and life can feel exhausting and overwhelming. There is a lot we can not change right now, but there are steps we can take to minimise the effect the menopausal symptoms have on you.

During the menopause you may notice an increase in anxious feelings The first step is to reduce these feelings to find some calm in the turbulent waters of hoping hormones

Sleep can also be an issue for many women and worrying about health does not make it easier. We work towards improving sleep & your well-being.

Another struggle can be a lack of concentration, poor memory sometimes losing confidence. These issues form part of a cluster of menopausal issues that we can explore gently and look at getting any unmet needs met.

“stay home to save lives” has been the mantra.

But at what cost to your wellbeing?

It is time to look after you, so you have spare energy to look after others.

Frequently asked questions

What's different about A New You  therapy?

What’s different about the A New You approach to therapy? is the combination of Human Givens, Hypnotherapy and Person Centered Therapy. People often ask how the human givens approach differs from other therapeutic approaches. The Professional Standards Authority did too when they were first assessing the HGI’s therapists register for accreditation. This is what Human Givens told them. The human givens approach to psychotherapy is a brief, solution-focused approach, which helps people feel better and move on in their lives as quickly as possible – at its heart is the understanding that, when a human being’s essential emotional needs are met and their innate mental resources are being used correctly, they will be emotionally and mentally healthy.

How many sessions will I need ?

There’s no fixed or ideal length of time for the therapy process; it varies from person to person and will often depend on the depth of the issues they are facing. I work on an open-ended basis with clients, and find it is helpful for us to both agree before we start what the desired outcome is ? What is it you want to achieve and where we are at once we reach that point. You are able to decide how long your therapy will last, you are in control. My aim is to make sure therapy is fast and effective and can continue for only as long as it is needed.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

Our aim is to offer you a first appointment, as soon as we can both agree a time and date. A session will only take place after we receive your completed client contact form with an agreed way of working.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

Confidentiality is one of the main ways in which therapy differs from many other forms of helping - for example, talking to friends or family can rarely offer the same degree of confidentiality as talking to a therapist. Because of this confidentiality, you will find that - as you get used to coming for therapy - you are freer to talk about whatever you wish to.

No therapist can offer 100% confidentiality: there are some situations where the law requires disclosure of risk (e.g. certain child protection issues) and in common with most other therapists, there are some situations where I may not be able to keep total confidentiality. In particular, if someone tells me that they are thinking of harming themselves in a way that I believe puts them at serious risk, or if someone tells me that they are doing something that could put others at risk, I may not be able to keep such information confidential. However, breaking confidentiality is rare, and only happens after talking to the person concerned.

Can I bring a friend or relative with me?

When you come for therapy it's important that you feel free to talk about whatever is important to you. Sometimes, you may not be clear what those issues are. Having a friend or family member with you is not usually helpful because they may have their own agenda for you. Even if this is just that they want to be supportive, or want you to 'get better', this agenda can prevent us opening issues up. When you come for therapy, you may need to explore thoughts or behaviours about which you feel ashamed or embarrassed and you may censor yourself so as not to hurt someone, or you may find that what they want you to talk about is not really what you need to discuss.

Sometimes, family/friends can even be part of an underlying issue which needs to be aired and discussed. Usually, people who ask this question are nervous about coming for a session alone, or they are anxious for the person who is thinking about arranging sessions. This anxiety is quite normal, and you will not be forced to talk about anything you feel uncomfortable about - but you do need to be able to talk about whatever is important. For this reason, If clients feel anxious I am happy for them to be accompanied by a friend or family member. However when i feel things have calmed down i ask them if its ok now for the friend or family member to wait outside. They will be invited to return when the session is over.

You may not know it, but you’ve already taken the first step...

It can be scary and confusing making the decision to contact a therapist, but in my experience people will struggle with a mental health issue, a personal crisis or problems with a relationship for much longer than is healthy. Sometimes a friend has proved a source of comfort, but this help can only go so far. Realising that resolving a problem requires something more means you have actually already taken the first step towards improving your life.

"To the man with toothache, even if the world is tottering there is nothing more important then a visit to the dentist."

(George Bernard Shaw)

How I see it...

I have worked as a therapist for a number of years now, and have come to believe that unless someone wants to change and has the desire to want to change therapy will have limited value. The skill of a therapist is helping people to help themselves... the person coming to therapy has to want that help, and be prepared to act on it.

A fascinating journey begins here...

Therapy is a journey with your therapist to guide you through a familiar but sometimes difficult landscape.

Therapy might not be easy but it will be worth it.

"A Journey of a thousand miles begins

with one step"

(Lao Tzu)
